Iron Sharpens Iron

I've been spending a lot of time lately getting to know another brother in the Lord, Larry Meece. Our time together has been encouraging and uplifting - my life has gotten better as a result of our hours working together. God, through Larry, has made me a better man.

I was reminded of that Scripture tonight...

Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17

We are all contagious. There is no way around it. Our lives matter and we are affecting the lives of those around us - for good or ill. Our attitudes, our faith (or lack thereof), our sin, our worries... They are all having an impact.

The question is, what kind of an impact are you having?

It's your choice. Let's choose life.

Male, or Man? Part III

I can't escape it. I keep being brought back to it.

Manhood.

What does it look like? Who can I look to? What makes you a real man?

In a conversation with a friend a little while ago, we got talking about the generations of men before us. Those of my grandfathers' generation. They were men. Real men.

Those who lived through or around the Great Depression, and through the difficulties of WWII, seemed to exude an ora of manhood. Hard-working, disciplined, focused, frugal, respectable men. They were strong in their decisions and convictions, strong in their successes, and in their failures.

Somehow these men became the men they were. Maybe they were a product of their time, having lived through such difficult times in our country, maybe it was the traditional values that they held to, or their strong sense of morals and honor of God above, or maybe they were well-trained by the generation before them...

These wise men of our day, including my both my Grandfathers, are a stark contrast to what media portrays as manhood in our day. A stark contrast to "males" in our nation.

I guess I am on a journey. A journey to find men, true men, as God designed a man to be.

Somewhere, manhood has gotten lost in translation...

Male, or Man? Part II

As part of my journey in manhood, I recently picked up a book I've had for a while, Wild at Heart, by John Eldredge. I started reading it after a conversation with a friend regarding manhood, as he had recently gone through a study on the book.

I'm not too far into it but am liking it so far. I'll check back with a personal review once finished...

To Manhood.

Lukewarm

We will be discussing this portion of Scripture tomorrow at The Chapel's men's study.

Most have heard of the "lukewarm church," few would be willing to honestly admit they are lukewarm; fewer yet are willing to pay the necessary price that Jesus outlines to fix things.

Read the loving words of our Savior below...

"And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: 'The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's creation. "'I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see. Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.'" http://bible.us/Rev3.14.ESV
